About

There's a moment, late on Thanksgiving afternoon, when the light turns gold. It comes in low through the dining room window, catches the edge of the gravy boat and the rim of every glass, and for about twenty minutes everything looks like a painting. Nobody plans it. Everyone remembers it.

Gold has always meant this. Long before gold foil and gold ink, harvest festivals were timed to the color of the fields: wheat and corn turning from green to gold was the signal that the work was done and it was time to eat together. Thanksgiving is that old harvest feast, still going.

The Gilded digital Thanksgiving invitation is built on that one color and almost nothing else. It opens in darkness with a slim counter running from 000 to 100 and a gold line filling beneath it. Then the screen parts like a curtain, and THANKS rises letter by letter in tall black serif, with giving underneath in shifting gold foil. As your guest moves a finger across the screen, a soft gold light follows it. Scroll down and a band of words slides past: gather, give thanks, break bread, stay late. It speeds up when you scroll faster. Your own words come next, lighting up one at a time as they're read. Then the page turns sideways for the details: the date as a huge gold 26, then where to come, then what's on the table, each landing neatly in place. It ends with a slowly turning gold seal and a handwritten-feeling Thank you.

It feels expensive without being loud. There's no clip-art turkey and no pumpkin border, just ivory, black and gold, and motion that rewards anyone who takes a minute with it. Send it to the family group chat and someone will reply "how did you make this?" before anyone replies yes.

It suits the dinner where you're using the good glasses this year. Gold light, long table, everyone you love, twenty perfect minutes.

What the invite does

The Gilded digital Thanksgiving invitation opens from one link on any phone and works in a group chat, a text or an email.

  • Opening sequence. A counter and curtain lead into the animated title. Guests can tap to skip ahead.
  • Your words, front and center. The statement, date, address and menu are all editable, and the menu and note can be switched off.
  • RSVP and map. Replies come back to you in a tap, and the address opens in maps.
  • Background music, controlled by your site's own mute button.
Guests who have reduced motion turned on see a calm, still layout with the same content.
