There's always one balloon that gets away. Someone's little brother lets go of the string in the car park, and the whole party stops to watch it climb. Kids remember balloons the way grown-ups remember songs: the squeak of rubber, the static in your hair, the brave one who pops the first one on purpose.

Balloons have been part of children's parties for a long time. The first rubber ones were made by the scientist Michael Faraday in 1824 for his experiments, and toy makers soon turned them into something every child wanted. Two hundred years later, a bunch of balloons tied to the gate is still how you tell the whole street there's a party inside.

The Balloon Bash digital birthday invitation is built around that feeling. It opens on a soft sky that shifts from blue to peach, with clouds that drift and a sun that slowly breathes. In the middle stands your child's new age as one giant, glossy coral number, with five balloons tied above it, bobbing on their strings. Their name sits on top in a warm, rounded serif, with "is turning" in handwriting underneath. As you scroll down, the date lands on a tear-off calendar page, the party time spins into a round yellow sticker, and the venue hangs from a brown luggage tag. A taped note at the bottom says what to wear and what to expect.

Then comes the part kids love most. Balloons keep floating up the screen, and every one can be popped with a tap: confetti bursts out, a cheer word like "Yay!" or "Boom!" bounces in, a little victory jingle plays and a counter keeps score. Every fifth pop sets off a bigger celebration. Tap the giant number and a party horn sounds.

Parents see a clean, beautiful invitation. Kids see a game. Grandparents see their grandchild's name in big friendly letters and know exactly where to be and when.

It works for a first birthday just as well as a tenth, and it looks right sent to the class parents' group at 9 pm on a school night. Expect at least one reply that just says "my son popped 47 balloons".

What the invite does

The Balloon Bash digital birthday invitation opens from one link on any phone and shares easily on WhatsApp, by text or by email.

  • Made to play with. Floating balloons pop into confetti with a cheer and a jingle, and a score counter tracks the pops.
  • Your details, beautifully laid out. Name, age, date, time, venue and a note to parents, all editable. The note and the host line can be switched off.
  • RSVP and map. Replies come back to you in a tap, and the venue opens in maps.
  • Sound that follows your mute button. The pop, cheer and horn sounds play only after a tap, and the site's mute button controls them, along with any background music you add.
Children who use reduced-motion settings see a calm, still version with the same information.
