Mehndi Invitation Quotes & Shayari: 40 Opening Lines With English Meanings

Summary
Use exactly one mehndi quote or shayari line at the top of your invitation, then go straight into the date, time and venue. The reliable classics are "मेहंदी की रात आई है, संग प्यार की बरसात लाई है" (the night of mehndi is here, bringing a shower of love) and "आज मेरी सखी की मेहंदी है" (today is my friend's mehndi). Beautiful lines. Also extremely well-travelled — so if you want something guests haven't seen, the less-common options below are worth the extra minute.

Most mehndi invitation quotes you'll find online are the same eight lines, copied across forty websites since roughly 2014. Your guests have read them. Some of them have sent them.

These slot into any of the wordings in our mehndi invitation message guide.

The classic mehndi shayari everyone knows

Worth listing honestly, because familiarity isn't a flaw — a line your nani recognises does a job a clever original line can't.

The night of mehndi has come, bringing with it a shower of love.

Today is my friend's mehndi.

Keep the henna applied, keep the doli decorated. (From the film song — instantly recognisable to almost everyone.)

Henna on the hands, joy in the heart.

The darker the henna, the deeper the love.

That last one deserves a footnote. It's folklore, not fact — The Knot's mehndi ceremony explainer traces the belief that a darker stain signals a stronger marriage, and notes the practical reason henna is applied several days early: time, not affection, is what darkens it. Fun line for an invitation. Don't use it to judge anyone's marriage.

Less-used mehndi invitation quotes in Hindi

The ones that haven't been recycled into oblivion.

Colour rises on the hands, joy rises in the heart.

This mehndi is special, because you are with us.

The beat of the dhol, the scent of henna — only you are missing.

The colour of happiness is the deepest of all — come, let's apply it together.

One ritual, a thousand memories. Come, be a part of it.

Henna colours not just hands, but hearts.

Your presence will brighten this colour further.

Mehndi invitation quotes in English

For guests who read English first, and for the version of the invite you'll post on Instagram.

Come colour our celebration.

The first colour of our wedding week goes on the bride's hands. Be there when it does.

Henna, music, and the people we love. Nothing else required.

Some traditions are better in a crowd. This is one of them.

Where the hands get busy and the heart gets full.

A little colour, a lot of noise, and one very happy bride.

Every wedding begins somewhere. Ours begins with henna.

The design fades in two weeks. The evening doesn't.

Before the vows, the colour. Before the colour, you.

Music, mehndi, and mildly aggressive feeding. Please come.

One night, one bride, and enough henna to bankrupt a small artist.

Our celebrations start here — with green hands and full plates.

Emotional mehndi quotes for a sister or best friend

Different job entirely. These are for the invitation you send to the person who's been in every chapter.

My dearest friend, this day is incomplete without you.

Every big day of my life has had you in it. Don't break the streak.

It's my sister's mehndi, and your presence is essential.

You've been there for the worst of it. Come be here for the good part.

Some people you don't invite, you assume. You're one of them — but here's the date anyway.

We played together, grew together — now let's do this ritual together too.

Short mehndi quotes for the invitation card itself

For the header line on a card or digital invite, where you have room for five or six words.

The night of mehndi
Colour, ritual and our people
 • Let the colour begin
 • Henna & happiness
 • The first celebration
 • Mehndi ki shaam
 • Colour us happy
An evening full of colour
 • Green hands, full hearts

If you're placing one of these onto an actual invite layout, Eventic's wedding and mehndi templates have the header slots sized for exactly this kind of short line, which saves you fighting with text boxes in a design tool.

How to use a quote without wrecking the invitation

Three rules, learned the hard way by everyone who's ever sent a four-couplet invitation.

 1. One quote. One. Two poetic lines push the venue below the fold on a phone. A guest who has to scroll to find the time is a guest who closes the message and forgets.
 2. Quote at the top, details immediately after. Never sandwich the details between two poetic lines.
 3. Match the quote to the recipient. A Hindi couplet to a Hindi-speaking elder, an English line to a colleague. Sending shayari to someone who can't read it is a small awkwardness you can avoid — the Hindi and Hinglish mehndi message set has the transliterated versions if your recipient reads Roman script only.

One more thing worth saying: if you write your own line instead of using one of these, it will be better than all of them. Not because it'll be more poetic — because it'll sound like you. Guests notice.

Take the quote, take the samples, and go send the thing — the group has been waiting since Tuesday.

"मेहंदी की रात आई है, संग प्यार की बरसात लाई है" is the safest recognisable choice in Hindi. In English, something short like "Come colour our celebration" works better than a long sentence — the quote's job is to set a mood in one breath, not to explain the event.

One. Two at absolute maximum if the card has a large decorative header. More than that and the invitation stops functioning as an invitation.

For a private WhatsApp message to family, nobody minds. For anything printed commercially or posted publicly, well-known film lyrics are copyrighted — a paraphrase or a traditional folk line is the safer route.

First line, on its own, followed by a line break, then the details. If your message opens with the date and buries the quote at the bottom, drop the quote entirely — it isn't doing anything there.
