Invitation Messages in Hindi for WhatsApp: 45 Samples You Can Copy and Send

Page Navigation

Google Translate turns "we would be honoured by your presence" into something that reads like a summons from the electricity board. Technically correct. Emotionally dead. And your chachi will notice within four words.

Hindi invitation wording has its own rhythm — a set of phrases that have been used for generations because they work, not because they're literal. Below are 45 messages across every function, written in that register, ready to paste. Plus the translation traps that make an invite sound machine-made.

The phrases that carry a Hindi invitation

Learn these five and you can write any invite yourself:

PhraseWhat it doesWhere it goes
आपकी उपस्थिति प्रार्थनीय है"Your presence is requested" — the standard warm closeLast line
सादर आमंत्रित हैं"Cordially invited" — formal, respectfulAfter the guest reference
सपरिवार"With family" — invites the whole household in one wordBefore आमंत्रित
शुभ अवसर पर"On this auspicious occasion"Mid-sentence
आपके आशीर्वाद की प्रतीक्षा में"Awaiting your blessings" — signs off from hosts to eldersSign-off line

The one people miss is सपरिवार. Leave it out and you've technically invited one person from a household of six, which in some families is a real slight. One word, avoided entirely.

Hinglish: when Roman script is the better choice

Not everyone reads Devanagari quickly — plenty of people under 35 read Hindi fine but type and skim in Roman script. For cousins and friends, Hinglish is often the most natural register:

Ghar mil gaya finally 🏡 Griha pravesh — Sunday, 22 Nov, puja 9:30 AM B-704, Sunview Residency, Baner, Pune [Maps link] Zaroor aana, khaana pakka hai.

Shaadi fix ho gayi 💐 Ananya & Rohan · Wednesday, 25 Nov, 7 PM Hotel Landmark, Lucknow Aap sabka aana zaroori hai. 🙏

Roka hai iss Saturday! 🤍 12 September, 11 AM · Green Park Extension, Delhi Time pe aa jaana, lunch strong hai.

The rule of thumb: Devanagari for anyone over fifty, Hinglish for anyone under thirty-five, and for the middle group, whichever script your family's group chat already uses. Mixing scripts across your guest list is completely normal and nobody thinks twice about it.

Formatting Hindi messages on WhatsApp

Small things that make a pasted invite look like a card instead of a paragraph:

  • Bold with asterisks around the text, *like this*. Use it for names, the function and the date. Nothing else — bolding everything is the same as bolding nothing.
  • Italics with underscores. Rarely needed here.
  • Line breaks matter more than punctuation. One item per line. A Hindi invite written as a single paragraph is genuinely harder to read than the English equivalent, because Devanagari has no capital letters to break up the flow.
  • Test on one phone first. Send the message to yourself before the mass send. Some older Android phones still render conjunct characters oddly, and you'd rather find that out on your own screen.
  • Emojis: two or three, maximum. 🙏 at the end, one thematic one at the top. A row of eleven diyas makes a formal invitation look like a forward.

The part still done by hand

The message goes out digitally. The printed card still gets a name written on the envelope in Hindi, by whoever in the family has the best handwriting, usually at a dining table over three evenings. That hasn't changed and probably won't — a card addressed श्री एवं श्रीमती वर्मा सपरिवार in someone's actual hand carries something a printed label doesn't.

Two things make those three evenings less painful. A gold or silver metallic marker writes cleanly on dark and textured card stock, where a normal pen skips and a gel pen smudges Devanagari matras into each other — test one on a spare card first, because the cheap ones bleed. And plain gold-bordered invitation envelopes are worth having spares of, since somebody will misspell a surname on at least four of them and the printer's minimum reorder is 100.

If your cards came with pre-printed envelopes, ignore both. This is only for families printing the card and addressing it themselves, which is most of them.

Translation traps to avoid

  1. Don't translate "RSVP". Write "कृपया सूचित करें" or just ask in Hinglish — "kitne log aa rahe hain, bata dena 🙏". RSVP as a word means nothing to a large share of the list.
  2. Don't translate humour. English jokes translated into Hindi land flat almost every time. Write the Hindi version warm and straight instead.
  3. Avoid "आमंत्रण पत्र" in the message body — that phrase means the physical card, not the message. Guests will ask when the card is coming.
  4. Don't mix respect levels. आप throughout, or तुम throughout for a close friends' message. Switching mid-message reads as careless.
  5. Dates in words, not just digits. "बुधवार, 25 नवंबर" — the weekday is what makes people check their calendar.

Every function's English equivalent, plus the sending mechanics for a 200-person list, sits in the full WhatsApp invitation message guide. And if you'd rather not draft two language versions by hand, Eventic's wording generator will produce both off the same details, which is mostly useful for getting the formal Hindi phrasing right when you're not confident writing it yourself.

Before the mass send: paste your final message into a chat with yourself and read it on the phone screen, not the laptop. Line breaks that look fine on a big screen turn into an ugly wall on a 6-inch display, and that's the version everyone else sees.

Add the Hindi keyboard in your phone's language settings — Gboard supports both Devanagari and transliteration, so typing "shaadi" gives you शादी. Or copy the samples above and edit the names.
Venue names and Maps links stay in English — that's normal and helps people search. Everything else can be Hindi. A fully bilingual message doubles the length and gets skimmed.
Send two versions. It takes five minutes and it's the difference between an invite people read and one they scroll past.
For most functions, no — it's the norm now. For weddings, most families still take a printed card and sweets to the closest elders and send WhatsApp to everyone else. What actually causes offence isn't the medium; it's being included in a broadcast of ninety instead of receiving something addressed personally. Those are covered separately in how to divide a guest list before you send.
