WhatsApp Invitation Messages for Every Occasion: 100+ Copy-Paste Samples

Page Navigation

Your mother-in-law has just handed you a list of 214 names and said "beta, WhatsApp kar do." That's the entire brief. No wording, no format, no idea whether the same message goes to your boss and your bua.

Here's the wording for every function, sorted by occasion, written to be pasted into a chat and sent. Plus the part nobody tells you: how to actually send 200 of these without your account getting flagged, and why a chunk of your invites will silently fail to deliver even though WhatsApp shows them as sent.

Heads up: some links in this post are Amazon affiliate links — if you buy through them, Eventic earns a small commission at no extra cost to you.

What a WhatsApp invitation message actually needs

A printed card can be beautiful and vague. A WhatsApp invitation message cannot — it's read in four seconds, on a moving bus, by someone who will not scroll.

Six things, in this order:

  1. Who's inviting (family name, or "we")
  2. What the function is — named plainly
  3. Date and day together. Always both. "Nov 24" means nothing; "Tuesday, 24 November" means the person checks their week.
  4. Time — start time, and honestly, the real one
  5. Venue with a Google Maps link
  6. One warm line — the bit that makes it an invitation instead of a calendar entry

Anything past that goes in the invite card or the event page, not the message body. A message that needs a "Read more" tap has already lost half the guest list.

The other rule: the sample below the fold is the one people copy. So each section here gives you a short version for the flood-send and a longer, more formal one for elders, because sending your nanaji a message that opens with "Guys!!" is a genuinely bad idea.

Wedding invitation messages

The wedding is the one everyone searches for, and it's the one where tone matters most — the same message goes to a college group and to your father's colleagues.

Short, for the group send:

With the blessings of our elders, we're getting married. Ananya & Rohan Wedding: Wednesday, 25 November 2026, 7:00 PM Hotel Landmark, Kanpur Road, Lucknow [Maps link] We'd love to have you with us. 💐

Formal, for elders and colleagues:

Respected Sir/Madam, With great joy, the Sharma family invites you to the wedding of our daughter Ananya with Rohan, son of Shri Mahesh Verma. Date: Wednesday, 25 November 2026 Muhurat: 7:00 PM onwards Venue: Hotel Landmark, Kanpur Road, Lucknow Your presence will be our blessing. — Rajesh & Sunita Sharma

If the wedding is the whole reason you're here, we've gone much deeper on tone, timing and the multi-function schedule in the full guide to sending a wedding invite over WhatsApp, including what to do when half the guest list is on one side of the family and half on the other.

Engagement and roka invitation messages

Roka, sagai, ring ceremony — three names, three different levels of formality, and people mix them up constantly. Roka is the families agreeing; the engagement is the ring. Inviting people to one using the other's wording is the kind of thing an aunty notices immediately.

Two families, one happy decision. 🤍 Please join us for the roka ceremony of Meera & Aditya. Saturday, 12 September 2026 · 11:00 AM Residence: 24, Green Park Extension, New Delhi [Maps link] Lunch to follow. Come hungry.

Roka invites also go out on the shortest notice of any function — often ten days — which changes how you word the reminder. There's a full set of roka and sagai messages with the Hindi versions, including what to send when the date is fixed but the venue isn't, which happens more often than anyone admits.

Griha pravesh invitation messages

A housewarming is the easiest invite of the lot: it's happy, it's low-stakes, and everyone wants to see the new place.

We finally got the keys. 🏡 Please join us for our griha pravesh and lunch. Sunday, 22 November 2026 · Puja begins 9:30 AM B-704, Sunview Residency, Baner, Pune [Maps link] Come as you are — the sofa's arriving Saturday, so no promises on seating.

One timing note that will save you a phone call: there is no griha pravesh muhurat at all in August, September or October 2026. Jupiter sets from mid-July, Chaturmas follows, and Venus sets in October, which closes the window completely — Drik Panchang's griha pravesh calendar lists the reopening dates from November. If your relatives keep asking why you're waiting till November to move in properly, that's the answer. The griha pravesh message samples with the puja timings spelled out cover the vastu shanti variants too.

Namkaran and naming ceremony messages

The one with the trickiest logistics, because the ceremony is traditionally on the eleventh or twelfth day after birth — which means you're inviting people while running on no sleep, and half the guests need to travel.

Our little one has a name. 🌸 Please join us for her namkaran ceremony. Friday, 4 September 2026 · 10:00 AM Ramaiah residence, 12th Cross, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru [Maps link] Blessings only, no gifts please.

Keep this one short and skip the flourish. New parents don't have the bandwidth and guests understand instantly. The naming ceremony samples include the barasala and cradle-ceremony wordings, since the same ritual carries different names and different days across regions.

Anniversary invitation messages

Two versions of this exist and they're nothing alike: the one you send for your own anniversary party, and the one children send for their parents' 25th or 50th. The second is more common and gets warmer wording.

50 years. Same jokes. 💛 Join us as we celebrate the golden anniversary of Mr & Mrs Prakash Iyer. Sunday, 6 December 2026 · 7:00 PM Silver Oak Banquets, Adyar, Chennai [Maps link] No gifts — just be there and let them show off.

Milestone years get their own tone, and the anniversary invitation samples by year split the silver, golden and first-anniversary wording out properly.

Birthday invitation messages

Birthdays are the highest-volume WhatsApp invite in the country and the wording is genuinely different for a first birthday versus a 40th versus a kids' party where you're really messaging other parents about pickup logistics. We've covered that whole set — including the son, daughter and first-birthday variants — in the dedicated birthday message guide, and the first-birthday wording for Indian families goes deeper on the annaprashan-plus-birthday combined invites.

Invitation messages in Hindi

A huge share of these messages go out in Hindi or Hinglish, and machine-translating an English invite produces something that reads like a government notice. "आपकी उपस्थिति प्रार्थनीय है" is correct and warm. What Google Translate gives you usually isn't. Full Hindi and Devanagari sets for every function above are in the Hindi invitation message collection.

How to actually send 200 invites without getting blocked

This is where most people mess up, and the failure is invisible.

Broadcast lists cap at 256 contacts — and here's the trap: a broadcast message only reaches people who have your number saved in their phone. If your father's cousin never saved you, your invite doesn't land. WhatsApp shows one tick and moves on. No error, no warning. WhatsApp's own help centre confirms both the cap and the saved-contact requirement, and it's been that way for a decade.

So for a 200-person guest list:

MethodCapWhat breaks
Broadcast list256 saved contactsSilently fails for anyone who hasn't saved you
Group1,024 membersEveryone sees everyone's number, and one uncle will start forwarding good-morning images
Manual one-by-oneNoneTakes about three hours, but nothing fails
Invite linkNoneWorks for anyone, saved or not

Broadcast lists also can't be created on WhatsApp Web — only on the phone app — which is a very annoying thing to discover at 11 PM.

The practical route: send the message manually to the fifty people who matter most (elders, close family, anyone who'd be offended by a mass send), then broadcast the rest in batches of 100 or so, spread across two days. Don't fire 250 identical messages in ten minutes; that pattern is exactly what spam detection watches for.

Two afternoons of this will destroy your battery, and it gets worse on the function day itself when you're the person everyone calls for directions. A 20,000mAh power bank is the one bit of kit that earns its place at every Indian function — keep it in the car, not in your bag, because the car is where you'll be sitting when you realise you're at 8%.

For the link itself, most families now send a page rather than a JPEG — a card image gets compressed into illegibility and buried under 400 other images in the gallery, whereas a link keeps working. If you're building that page, Eventic's invitation templates generate a WhatsApp-ready link with the maps pin and RSVP attached, though honestly any tool that produces a real URL beats sending a compressed image.

When to send each message

FunctionFirst messageReminderFinal nudge
Wedding4–6 weeks before2 weeks2 days
Roka / engagement10–14 days4 daysMorning of
Griha pravesh2 weeks3 daysMorning of
Namkaran5–7 days2 days
Anniversary party3 weeks5 days1 day
Birthday2 weeks3 daysMorning of

Two reminders is the ceiling. Three is nagging, and people start muting the thread — which means they'll also miss the venue change.

Whatever you do, keep the "who has been messaged" list somewhere other than your own head. Most families end up scribbling on the back of a printed card list and losing it by week two. A cheap guest list planner notebook with a column per function is genuinely better than a phone note here, because two or three relatives will be adding names to it at the same time and only paper handles that.

One last thing, and it's the single most-forgotten item on any WhatsApp invite: paste the Google Maps link, not the address. Half your guests are arriving from another city and will type "Sunview Residency" into their phone at 9 AM and find a different Sunview Residency in another sector. Thirty seconds of effort, one fewer panicked phone call during the puja.

Text, with a link. Images get compressed, get lost in the gallery, and can't be searched for at 6 PM when someone's looking for the venue. If you must send the card image, paste the address as text underneath it.
For the wedding itself, most families still visit the closest elders with a card and sweets, and send WhatsApp to everyone else. For every other function, WhatsApp is normal now. What people actually mind is being invited in a group of ninety — a message addressed to them personally lands completely differently.
You don't. Write two. It takes four extra minutes and prevents your manager receiving something that says "bring your dancing shoes 💃". If drafting both versions is the part you're stuck on, Eventic's wording generator will give you a formal and a casual draft off the same details.
Send a fresh message, don't reply to the old thread. Put the change in the first line — "Date changed: now Tuesday 24 Nov" — because anyone skimming will read line one and nothing else.
