Summary

A good Halloween party name is short, specific to you, and sets the costume expectation without a separate sentence. The four shapes that work are: a pun on your own name or street ("The Haunting of Hawthorn Road"), a horror-film riff ("Nightmare on Our Street"), a two-word atmospheric phrase ("Velvet Coffin"), and a deliberately grand title for a small party ("The Annual Ball of the Damned"). Pick the shape that matches your party's tone first, then browse only that section — that's what the lists below are organised for.

The name goes at the top of the invitation, above everything else. If you need the rest of the invite too, the complete Halloween party invitations guide covers what goes underneath it.

Some links below are Amazon affiliate links. If you buy through them, Eventic earns a small commission at no extra cost to you — it doesn't change what gets recommended here.

"Halloween Party at Sam's" gets a thumbs-up emoji. "Sam's Séance" gets a reply in ninety seconds and three people asking what they should wear.

Why the name does real work

Three things, and none of them are decorative.

It sets the costume bar before anyone reads the dress code. "Boo-ze and Boos" and "A Night at Marlowe House" imply completely different levels of effort, and guests calibrate off the name faster than off any sentence you write.

It makes the party a thing rather than an event. Named parties get referred to by name in group chats for weeks afterwards, which is free promotion for next year. "Are you going to the Séance?" is a sentence that only exists if you named it.

It gives you a visual direction for free. A name tells you the palette, the typeface and the imagery for the invitation without another decision. "Haunted Greenhouse" designs itself.

One rule before the lists: shorter is better. Two to four words. A name that doesn't fit on one line of a phone screen isn't a name, it's a tagline.

Grand titles for small parties (151–190)

Kids' Halloween parties (226–255)

If you're naming a children's party, keep the name gentle and put the reassurance in the invitation itself — the wording for kids' Halloween parties and trunk-or-treats covers the allergy line, the pickup time and the "no gory masks" rule that parents actually need.

Themes and names work best chosen together — if one of these grabbed you, the 2026 Halloween party themes give each one a palette and a decorating plan so the invitation and the room match.

Put the name somewhere people can see it

A party name that only exists on the invitation is doing half a job. The version that sticks — the one people use in the group chat afterwards — is the one they walked past on the way in.

Two easy ways to do that. A personalised party banner with your name on it costs less than a round of drinks and turns a hallway into an entrance, which is also where everyone will end up taking photos. Or, if you'd rather not commit to one name forever, a black felt letter board lets you spell out a different party name every year and doubles as a sign for the drinks table, the contest categories, or a genuinely unhelpful arrow.

How to pick one in under two minutes

  1. Decide the tone first. Silly, moody, grand, or child-friendly. That eliminates three of the five sections above immediately.
  2. Try your own surname or street in the pun formats. Personal names beat generic ones nearly every time — they're funnier and they tell people whose party it is.
  3. Say it out loud. If you'd feel embarrassed saying "are you coming to the Velvet Coffin?" in a group chat, it's the wrong name for you.
  4. Check the length. Two to four words. If it wraps to a second line on a phone, cut it.
  5. Stop. Naming a party is the most fun part of hosting and therefore the easiest place to lose an hour. It's a party for your friends, not a film.

Once you've got the name, the invitation basically writes itself — drop it into a Halloween invitation template, add the date, time, address and costume line, and you're done in ten minutes.

Pick the section that matches your tone, take the first one that makes you smile, and stop looking. The name is the fun part, not the hard part.

Explore common questions related to this blog.

Something short, personal and tone-setting: a pun on your surname or street ("The Haunting of Hawthorn Road"), a two-word atmospheric phrase ("Velvet Coffin"), or a grand title for a small gathering ("The Annual Ball of the Damned"). Two to four words is the right length.

It doesn't need one, but a named party gets better RSVPs and better costumes. The name signals how much effort to make, which is information guests are actively looking for and which most invitations fail to give them.

Something friendly rather than frightening — "Little Monsters Party," "Boo Bash," "[Child]'s Not-Too-Spooky Bash." Gentle names reassure parents that the party won't terrify a five-year-old, which is genuinely a thing they worry about.

Riff on it rather than copying it exactly — "Nightmare on Hawthorn Street" rather than the film's actual title. You get the recognition without putting someone else's trademark at the top of your invitation.

It helps enormously. A name like "Haunted Carnival" or "Black Tie, Black Magic" tells guests what to wear before they reach the dress code line, which means fewer questions and better costumes.
